Born and brought up in Africa, actress Gugni Gill is a well known name in Toronto, especially in the South Asian Community. Not only this, she has become a renowned name in India too. After completing her Bachelors degree from Delhi University and diploma in Computer Science from the Polytechnic for Women in Chandigarh, she stepped into acting field.
She made her debut by a Punjabi movie ‘RabDiyanRakha’ by Dara Singh after which she had no looking back. She signed movies as a main lead Actress within 6 months time. She was also chosen Miss Punjab and did many fashion shows in India and abroad. She hosted many shows in Canada and has been an excellent emcee in many big shows, as well as she has judged several pageants and shows. But after sometime, she left her professional life in film industry in order to settle down her family life.
She’s married to a Police officer and has two beautiful kids. Getting social, she continues to work with the community and for the community. One key way she does this is by becoming communities advocate for women’s, youth and senior issues concerning not only the South Asian community but also the larger community at hand. She is a pride for Indians, not only in Canada but worldwide.
She was selected as the North American Brand Ambassador for Imran Khan’s Cancer Foundation and also runs her own charity. Last November, Gugni Gill made us all proud by winning the prestigious Mrs. India United Nations (Delegate) and Mrs. United Nations International (1st Runner up 2012/2013) awards. She is also on the Advisory Board Director of PIFF Canada and was honoured as the Member of jury PIFF Canada 2013. She continues to shine with her charity involvements, (for various hospitals around the world and cancer foundations), fashion shows and a known socialite.
She is an active Member of the ROKO cancer foundation for which she has contributed a lot of time to raise awareness and organize fundraising events. She continues to do this with the balance of family life and above all her two sons that mean the world to her.
She has owned and managed a small business in Ontario; and has first-hand experience of challenges small businesses face on daily basis and the broken promises we as business owners have faced from government.
Gugni has also worked in the banking and financial industry, which has taught her the importance of good economic management – but also, how when honesty and integrity are replaced by scandal, change in leadership is both necessary and required. She now sits on the executive table of the NDP Party, despite not being elected as a Provincial candidate for Brampton West; she still had the highest voter turnout with a low resourced campaign for the NDP Party in the history of the riding.
She is a strong activist for women’s issues in the South Asian Community and brings her experience and knowledge of cultures around the world to the Executive Table. GugniGiil is a well rounded woman, with her active involvement in the community, dedication to her family and strong cultural values she is the ideal president for this organization.
