Not one to sit in front of the idiot box very often , more out of a compulsion to maintain peace with the children because of our diverse choices !However June 2014 brought in a dash of excitement in our lives.
Zindagi channel premiered on the Indian TV with shows from across the border. The content on this channel is simple, straight forward and there is an immediate connect with the characters. We don’t have to deal with the never ending tear jerker soaps which wind through generations, bring back the dead whenever they feel like and the overwhelmingly monumental sets!
What really bends the scales in favour of this channel is the brevity of these shows .Majority of them end within 30 to 40 episodes, some even as short as 25 episodes. One has to keep oneself abreast daily to know what lies ahead. You don’t pick and drop any serial midway. It actually keeps you wanting for more.
I lose count of the number of times I have watched Zindagi Gulzar Hai ( being aired for the third time ) and innumerable times on the You Tube! The handsome Fawad Khan hitherto not a familiar face to many walked straight into our hearts .His soulful eyes caused a million hearts to flutter.
I have no qualms in admitting that the serials made across the border have a solid story with excellent acting from all the characters. You actually detest the negative characters and tears pour out from one’s eyes while watching the agony of some of the characters on the small screen. Mahira Khan in Humsafar with her extraordinary talent brought the house down.
Dastaan brings out the pathos while narrating the heart rending tale of the Indo Pak partition. Thousands suffered on either side of the border and the wounds scarred the souls of many.
Zindagi has me interested in zindagi again and the comment ” tussi zyaada nhi TV dekhan lgg pye ? ” has me in splits often for I have resorted to laying my claim to the remote once again!
